How We Grade Our Furniture
Because we deal in returned furniture, not everything is perfect. A lot of the inventory we get is effectively brand new, but that's not always the case. We've created a basic system that allows our customers to look for the kind of inventory that fits their needs, in three basic grades.
Regardless of the grade, every listing we make will include pictures of the actual product we have. We may use a staged or stock photo on the front, but within the listings you will find pictures from our warehouse showing off the product and any flaws it may have. What you see is what you get, guaranteed.
Grade A
Grade A furniture is our best quality inventory. It will be in new or like-new condition, without major cosmetic issues or damage.
Grade A may include pieces with cosmetic issues in places that are not visible (undersides, backsides, etc.), but they will not have any damage (cracking, dents, stains, rips, etc,)
Often, these types of returns are items bought and returned immediately, sometimes without even being opened. It's fairly common for people to make a mistake about size or color and send the item back without even fully removing it from the original packaging.
Grade B
Grade B furniture is for pieces with cosmetic damage to a visible surface, or damage that is not structural. Grade B furniture will commonly have small scuffs, dents, or other small cosmetic issues that do not affect the performance of the piece, but may make it less visually pleasing. They may have small amounts of damage (chips, rips, etc.), but not damage that will significantly reduce the life of the piece.
Many of the issues with Grade B furniture can be covered or fixed with basic materials. They are not "trash" pieces or "bad" pieces, they just have minor issues that make them slightly below Grade A.
Most commonly, these are pieces that sustained damage in shipping and were returned.
Grade C
Grade C furniture is for our pieces with either major cosmetic flaws, or damage that will shorten the life of the piece if not repaired. Dinged corners on tables, or cracked boards on a dresser are examples of Grade C pieces.
We don't offer a lot of Grade C pieces, but we offer some because they are a great chance to own a piece of quality furniture with some repair. A table may have a badly dented top, but good legs. A dresser may have one drawer that doesn't work, but the other five work fine. These are great for people who are fine with the issues and willing to use the piece, or put in the effort to fix it up and get a great deal.
If we feel a piece is truly beyond repair, we will not sell it. We salvage what we can to save other pieces, and get rid of the rest. We are not in the business of selling junk, but we want to give every opportunity for furniture to find someone who needs it. If Grade C isn't for you, that's perfectly ok!
